Overview

The goal of this project is to improve the navigation and orientation possibilities of blind or partially sighted persons using mobile devices, which can unite local sensor information with model information from site-based services.

The data stored in environment models are to be laid over mapped objects with local measurements of distance, size and color. In this way an identification of objects and thus their acoustic designation is possible. At the same time the environment model can be updated by fusion of these data.

Based on these services a navigation aid is to be developed, which accomplishes a route planning appropriate for blind during input of a desired goal. Under constant alignment of sensor and model information this navigation aid can help the user to avoid obstacles on the way. Beyond that the navigation aid is to make access possible to further services developing within the field of research like virtual advertising columns, localization of other users etc..
