Welding Point Data Modification

Because of the change to independantly meshed components the mapping of connections of components, for example welding points, is getting a more important role in the simulation process. For the moment it depends on the time in the development process of the vehicle if welding point data is already defined in the CAD-modell or has to be specified by the calculating engineers in the meshed vehicle modell for the first simulation runs.

crashViewer supports the user at validating of already defined welding points as well as the setting of new ones. Among others the following criteria are checked for each welding point:

  • distance between welding point and the finite element mesh to be connected lies below a preset limit of tolerance
  • distance between welding point and other already defined welding points does not fall below a preset limit of tolerance
  • finite element meshes to be connected are defined in the record
  • welding point can be projected onto the finite element mesh
  • standardvariance of the connected finite elements is below a preset limit of tolerance
  • between the two finite element meshes to be connected there is no third one near the welding point

In case one or more of the criteria are not fulfilled for read welding points the welding point is represented by another geometry or color:

The defective welding points can be traversed - also each type of error seperately - and be corrected or deleted.

The setting of new welding points can be done singularly by clicking at the finite elements meshes who are to be connected or by defining a line with start- and endpoint which is afterwards projected onto the geometry and welding points are defined according to already specified minimal distances along this line, if all above criteria are fulfilled.
Furthermore welding points can be moved or deleted.
