In cooperation with TWT[1], NIKI Information Technologies and the University of Ioannina[2], Medical Technology and Software Development Unit[3] a system for simulating the User Interface of devices (such as mobiles, telephones, cameras, ...) shall be developed. The system shall use a server to simulate the device and generate its user interface. A client is used to render the user interface. Client and server are connected through the internet. The user on the client side shall be able to trigger events in the GUI by using the mouse or keyboard. The fired events are transmitted to the server for processing. The result of this processing - an altered GUI - is then transmitted back to the client, where the current GUI is updated with the changes. Ideally the user doesn not notice that the event handling occurs on another node. Beside usual 2D GUIs there shall also be a support for 3D GUIs.
The system can be used to explain, practice, or test the operation of device prototypes. The simulation of these devices may require many resources. By separating the simulation subsystem from the render subsystem almost every computer can use the system, because the client does not require as much resources as the server.
