The calculating engineer can specify explicitly which variables are to be recorded at each simulation run. These calculated values are available after the simulation in the result file for example per element or per node. With the aid of a colortable defining the minimal and maximal value of the interesting range the scalars can be changed into colors and finally be displayed.
To color the geometry onedimensional RGB amd alpha textures are used in crashViewer. Besides the higher efficiency for the creation of the picture there are several other advantages explained in detail in the following.
